“EVER SINCE SHE CAN REMEMBER, QUEENIE HAS ALWAYS HAD A SPECIAL PLACE FOR MUSIC AND MOVEMENT IN HER HEART. HER HONEST ENTHUSIASM AND LOVE FOR DANCE, HAD GROWN IMMENSELY OVER THE PAST YEARS AND WHAT WAS ONCE ONLY A ‘HOBBY’, HAD FINALLY BECOME HER WAY OF LIFE.”
“From mentoring First Nation youths in various reserves, to training and choreographing for highly competitive teams in New Brunswick, Queenie enjoys engaging and educating her students about the beauty and artistry behind pieces of music that moves her. She then trains students to transfer that knowledge into movement, which ultimately transforms each student into dynamic and confident dancers. Under the mentorship of FLAVORSHOP founder, Lenny Len, she continues to train and improve on her craft as a dancer, as well as a teacher and choreographer. She practices a 3D understanding of music and movement (Sonic Definition and Groove) and guides youths on how they can develop their OWN understanding of music. She encourages students to explore and find their own signature style in a fun and positive environment. Queenie guarantee that students will never leave class without feeling good – not only about their dancing – but about themselves as individuals.”
Queenie has always stuck out in my mind as a peer I admire and respect. In my time knowing her I have witnessed her amazing work with youths and within Flavorshop Dance. I have always admired how she makes her students feel, especially the youth at Don Montgomery. When Queenie comes in to teach theres an energy about the room after the piece is done and they’re sharing with one another. The moment I walked into the dance studio where Danceology hosts “Queen presents The Sunday Special,” I immediately felt welcomed in her world. The music was pounding the walls of the studio and Queenie was pulling out tracks that I forgot of or tracks I only heard at jams. Her energy filled the room, the cameras started to roll and we were officially in Phase 2.
The shoot went so smoothly and reviewing over the footage and audio, my Videographer and I got everything we need to move forward with the project. Now I’ve begun preparing for my next Artists/Professional, I am so excited to share her story. Her story has inspired many through the Bucc N Flvr movement and I hope you’re ready to go to the East Side.
Check out Queenie Seguban’s, “Queen presents The Sunday Special” every Sunday 7:30pm @ Danceology (2700 Dufferin St. Toronto, ON)
